Three More Properties Protected By Upstate Forever
Upstate Forever’s Land Trust Program is honored to have received three new conservation agreements, totaling 721 acres, since the publication of our previous newsletter.
Following are descriptions of these important properties:
 |
| Waterloo Site |
The Waterloo Site is a 406-acre hunt club in Laurens County, adjoining one of the state’s most significant rivers, the Saluda. This attractive, forested property contains 2,200 feet of river frontage immediately upstream from Lake Greenwood. Under the terms of the property’s conservation agreement, which was partially funded by a grant from the South Carolina Conservation Bank, a one-hundred-foot riparian buffer has been designated along the river. Upstate Forever’s Land Trust Program looks forward to conserving many more important riverfront properties like this one, as part of a larger effort to protect riparian habitat and ensure good water quality in the Upstate.

| Cleveland Farms, Phase III |
The third and final phases of the Cleveland and Wilson Farms properties closed at the end of 2006, completing a critically important missing link in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area in northern Greenville County. All three phases of the two properties total 858 acres of a stunning array of features and resources, including Head Foremost Waterfall (arguably the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi), rich hardwood forests, diverse wildlife habitat, spectacular views of “Pretty Place” at Camp Greenville, and the pristine Middle Saluda River.
