Capital Campaign A Success!

     It all began with a wonderful challenge grant of $100,000 from an anonymous donor. If we could raise that amount in new support in eight months, the donor would match it. We went to work and did it.

But there was more to come. The grant inspired us to undertake our first ever capital campaign. We initially thought our goal would be $750,000, but a feasibility study showed that we could do better than that. In the fall of 2005, the Board approved a campaign aimed at raising $1.2 million.

An awesome team of Board, staff, and volunteers, led by Erwin Maddrey, our tireless and dedicated Campaign Chair, took on the challenge and succeeded. With the support provided by 171 donors, we raised a total of $1,313,000 – more than $100,000 over our goal!

Capital Campaign funds will help our Land Trust program protect more special places in the Upstate, like the Eastatoee Valley in northern Pickens County.

We will now be able to:

• Strengthen and expand our Land Trust Program.
• Acquire title to a new office in Greenville’s Pettigru Historic District (just around the corner from our current office), eliminating costly rental payments and allowing us to use those funds directly for our program work.
• Undertake a “green renovation” of our office as a model for similar projects throughout the region.

Our successful campaign enabled us to purchase this office building on Pettigru Street in Greenville and renovate it to green standards.
