& Supporters
Upstate
Forever is a grass roots membership based organization. Established
in late 1998, we now have over 3,300 members.
In
addition to financially supporting the mission of Upstate Forever,
our
members enjoy field trips such as kayaking on
the Chattooga river, hiking along the Blue Wall preserve with
Tommy Wyche, and photography outings with Bill Robertson.
“The
Upstate of South Carolina is a beautiful area. We have
mountains with wonderful views for hiking and camping.
We have rivers, creeks, ponds and lakes for exploring and
playing. We have great diversity in wildlife and plant
life to enjoy. We must remember, however, that within a
very short time span we can and will destroy it all for
everyone if we don’t preserve and protect it. That’s
why Karen and I support the Land Trust of Upstate
Forever. We support it so much that we’ve
purchased a beautiful piece of wilderness that we plan
to preserve for future generations.”

Educational
opportunities include walking tours of the Upstate with “walkable
communities” expert Dan Burden and lectures on such diverse
topics as Traditional Neighborhood Development and riparian buffer
restoration. Our annual meetings are always an opportunity
for members to meet, eat, and "move their feet" through one
of Upstate Forever's easements or other natural setting.
Many
of our members are also dedicated volunteers. Visit our volunteers page for more information
“Upstate
Forever has a unique and wonderful vision
for the land use legacy we leave to future generations.
This is a true “grassroots organization” because
every dollar donated and every hour volunteered
has a positive impact towards preserving the irreplaceable
natural resources that are special to Upstate South
Carolina. The Upstate Forever field
trips are great fun and serve to further educate
us on the rare beauty of this region. On each field
trip, I have made new friends and returned with
a renewed commitment to the stewardship of the
natural treasures in our communities.”
