Gary Clary
Development Coordinator

     Retired Judge Gary Clary has joined Upstate Forever as Director of Development after a distinguished career in the law spanning more than three decades. A native of Gaffney, Gary served as a judge on the Circuit Court of South Carolina for ten years, which included duties as the Presiding Judge of the South Carolina Grand Jury. He also spent 16 years as a trial attorney and was managing partner of Hall Daniel Winter & Clary in Gaffney, served as an aide to Sen. Strom Thurmond in Washington, was assistant general counsel at Extended Stay America in Spartanburg, and is the co-author of three books on legal topics.

Gary is a graduate of Clemson University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. His extensive community involvement includes past leadership positions with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the Cherokee County Development Board, Palmetto Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, and he was a founding member of Cherokee County Habitat for Humanity and Cherokee Pastoral Counseling Center.

Gary and his wife Pat, a nursing instructor at USC Upstate, have two children and three grandchildren. Currently a resident of Pickens County, Gary enjoys spectator sports, gardening, outdoor recreation, and spending time with his family.
