Maria Garuti
Administrative Assistant

Born in Argentina, Maria has lived in Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from George Mason University. Her experience includes four years as a 5th and 6th grade teacher in Washington, DC, two years in the nonprofit sector in Asheville, NC, and four years as a full-time mom in Greenville (which was by far the most challenging!). Maria lives with her husband, Bill, and son, Noah, in the North Main neighborhood in Greenville. They love to take long walks downtown and are slowly restoring the 1930’s bungalow they call home.

Maria is grateful to be working at Upstate Forever; she feels it’s important to find a balance between the vibrancy that growth can create and the impact it has when it is not managed in a sustainable way
