Chris Starker joined the Clean Air & Water program's Rural Waters project team in 2009 after working on projects related to low impact development practices, riparian buffer protection, and watershed protection strategies as an intern for a year. He has been actively educating the public on water quality issues including lake related point-source and non-point source pollution such as stormwater management, nutrient reduction, and other general lake management issues and legislation. In addition, he has been participating in Duke Energy's Keowee-Toxaway Relicensing Project and working to address the PCB contamination of Lake Hartwell.
Chris received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Photography from the University of South Carolina and is currently finishing his Masters degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management from Clemson University. Born in Indianapolis, he has lived in South Carolina since 1980 and moved to Greenville with his wife, Melissa, in 2002. When he's not in the office, he likes to explore the mountains, lakes, and local parks with his children, Noah, Liam, and Madeline. He also enjoys climbing, skiing, backpacking and birding, and sometimes when he’s feeling less active he’ll play the guitar or read a book.
