Mary Walsh
Urban Rivers Project Associate
Mary Walsh was educated in civil engineering at the Cooper Union in New York City, where she conducted research in the sustainable management of water resources, in particular focusing on the ability of low-impact development to reduce water pollution caused by stormwater runoff. Mary is a co-author of a publication entitled "Rapid assessment of the cost-effectiveness of low-impact development for CSO control," which is included on Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC 2030 sustainability website as a resource for cleaning New York City's waterways.
Mary's dedication to the protection of water resources is evident from her past experiences, which include working to provide access to water and sanitation services to rural communities in Ghana, working on initiatives to alleviate poverty through sustainable water resources management, and working with local governments to promote the use of green building technologies in New York City.
Mary is excited to be a part of Upstate Forever's efforts to protect, improve and restore the Upstate's precious water resources both for its current inhabitants and for future generations. In her spare time, Mary enjoys running, reading, cooking, sewing, and playing tennis.
