After
working as an attorney in Greenville for nearly 20 years, Brad left
the law practice in late 1998 to found Upstate Forever and has served
as its Executive Director since that time. As an attorney, he concentrated
in the environmental field and was recognized by his peers as one
of "The Best Lawyers in America."
Brad
has served as a member of the Governor's Council on Natural Resources
and the Environment and the South Carolina Coastal Council. From
1999 to 2003, he was the Chairman of the South Carolina Board
of Health and Environmental Control. Brad is the co-author of Guide
to Environmental Law in South Carolina, published
by the South Carolina Bar in 2011, as well as numerous articles
in legal journals on environmental and natural resource protection
issues.
Brad
was the recipient of the 1997 Environmental Awareness Award from
the South Carolina General Assembly, the 2001 Southern Environmental
Leadership Award from the Southern Environmental Law Center, the Roosevelt-Ashe Society's Outstanding Conservationist of 2010, and the 2011 Conservation Stewardship Achievement Award from the South Carolina Aquarium. He
has been recognized as one of the "25 Most Influential Persons"
in the Greenville community. In 2006, he received an honorary doctorate in humanities from Furman University for his work and accomplishments in the sustainable development and conservation fields. He also served on Governor Mark Sanford's Climate Change, Energy and Commerce Advisory Committee.
Brad
holds a bachelor's degree in geology and environmental studies from
Princeton University and earned his law degree from the University
of Virginia. He also has a master's degree in natural resource management
from Yale University.
