Conservation Agreements

Larry McKinney granted to Upstate Forever a conservation agreement to preserve a 141-acre tract that is directly adjacent to Paris Mountain State Park. The property contains five streams that drain into Hayne Creek, the principal source of water for Mountain Lake and Lake Placid at the park. During the summer, Lake Placid is heavily used by the public for swimming. Hayne Creek, which is classified as an "Outstanding Resource Water" (the highest classification in the state), represents the southern boundary of the property for almost one mile. The agreement allows only three residences and prohibits any disturbance within 100 feet of any stream.

"We are very excited about this conservation agreement. The permanent protection of this property will be of enourmous benefit to the public."
