Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC) is proposing to build a 1,365 Megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas plant in Anderson County — making it one of the largest new gas-fired power facilities in the Southeast.
The plant would be constructed on nearly 200 acres at Highway 81 South and True Temper Road, just miles from homes, businesses, and places of worship. If approved, construction could begin in summer 2027, and the plant could start serving customers by early 2031.

On October 30, 2025, DEC filed an application for a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility, Public Convenience and Necessity (CECPCN) at the SC Public Service Commission, as required by the Utility Facility Siting and Environmental Protection Act. The project is estimated to cost $3.2 billion. DEC has said the Anderson Gas Plant will leverage existing transmission infrastructure and will utilize air cooled condensers to mitigate the plant's water usage.
The SC Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing on DEC's request for the approval of their CECPCN. The hearing will be held on February 2, 2026, at 6pm at The Civic Center of Anderson (3027 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Anderson, SC 29625.)
