In 2021, Upstate Forever worked with landowners to protect an approximately 430-acre portion of Morrow Creek Timbers, a property containing primarily forested land located in an unincorporated area of Abbeville County. In 2024, the landowners added protections to approximately 237 additional acres of land.
This protected property consists primarily of pine forest and features a spectacular array of wildlife including white-tailed deer, beaver, turkey, grey and red fox, bobcats, coyotes, feral hogs, black bear, and two rare coveys of quail. The 6-acre pond and 30 acres of forested wetlands provide habitat for wood ducks, black ducks, mergansers, mallard ducks, green-winged teals, woodcocks, and Canada geese.
Project funders include the South Carolina Conservation Bank and Upstate Land Conservation Fund.
Conservation easements are a voluntary, permanent way landowners can protect special places from development. For more information about partnering with UF to conserve your property, please contact our nationally-accredited Land Trust at landtrust@upstateforever.org.
