Upstate Forever and partners receive grant from the Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative

Upstate Forever, Clemson University, and Lake Conestee Nature Park have received a grant from The Cornell Lab and Land Trust Alliance's Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative to study and determine best management practices to restore and improve grassland bird habitats.

Andrea Cooper selected to become Riley Fellow

Andrea Cooper, Executive Director of Upstate Forever, joins other leaders selected from across the Upstate and surrounding area to participate in the Riley Institute at Furman’s 28th class of Diversity Leaders Initiative.

Upstate Forever will transfer bikeshare operations to the City of Greenville in late 2019

Local conservation group Upstate Forever, who has operated Greenville B-cycle since March 2013, will give up the reins as program operator later this year. The City of Greenville has committed to taking over the local bike-share program.

Thank you to past board chair Mark Taylor, and congratulations to new chair Joe Lesesne

Many thanks to Mark Taylor for serving as Upstate Forever’s Board Chair for the past two years. Mark is the president of SynTerra and has been involved with Upstate Forever since it was formed in 1998. Along with Brad Wyche, Mark has also co-chaired the Crossroads Campaign Steering Committee for the past year, and has been integral to its success. He will remain on the board but has passed the reins to our new chair, Joe Lesesne.

Upstate Forever Receives $75,000 Grant from Hollingsworth Funds

Hollingsworth Funds has awarded Upstate Forever a grant for $75,000 to empower and equip Greenville’s community leaders, citizens, and quality-of-life stakeholders with land use solutions to help address the most urgent issues facing our community.

Upstate Forever receives $1 million gift honoring Marjorie E. Schmidt

Upstate Forever is thrilled to announce it has received a $1 million gift in honor of Marjorie E. Schmidt, a longtime Greenville resident with a heart for nature and a humble, giving spirit. The gift will be used to advance Upstate Forever’s mission to protect land, water, and the unique character of the Upstate in the face of skyrocketing growth and sprawling development.

Upstate Forever Receives $90,000 Grant from the Jolley Foundation

Greenville, SC – The Jolley Foundation awarded Upstate Forever a grant for $90,000 over two years to engage Greenville County community members and quality-of-life stakeholders in critical land use discussions and to help build local capacity for addressing community challenges through land use solutions. With the generous support of the Jolley Foundation, we plan to engage many more citizens and non-traditional stakeholders in discussions about land use and its impacts.

Upstate Forever files appeal in Glassy Mountain case

Upstate Forever filed an appeal and a request for pre-litigation mediation in Pickens County circuit court in response to a decision by the Pickens County Planning Commission to approve a development at the base of the Glassy Mountain Heritage Trust Preserve in Pickens County. As of December 2017, the property in question has been permanently protected by a conservation easement thanks to the strong collaborative effort by many community stakeholders.
