City of Greenville comp plan & tree ordinance 2nd reading on Monday

January 21st, 2021

Next Monday, January 25, at 5:30 pm Greenville City Council will host a public hearing on GVL2040, the City's draft comprehensive plan. We'll be there to voice our support! We'll urge Council to adopt the plan as drafted and encourage immediate action following adoption on the plan's prioritized "must do" check list for 2021-22. Click here to read the GVL2040 Executive Summary or here to access the full GVL2040 plan where you can find the "must do" check list for 2021-22 on page 75. Also on Monday, City Council will vote on the proposed tree ordinance. In a vote at first reading of the ordinance on January 11, Council rejected a proposed exemption that would have limited the ordinance's effectiveness in halting loss of tree canopy in residential neighborhoods — where most of the city's remaining tree canopy is located. You can read more about that here and here. We anticipate (but don't take for granted) final adoption on Monday of the ordinance Council advanced at first reading.
