Our team advocated for important tools to guide the growth of the city over the next two decades: GVL2040 and the GVL Development Code.
Past Projects
In 1998 we launched a campaign urging Greenville County to acquire a rail line that had recently gone on the market and convert it to a trail through the Rails-to-Trails process.
UF supported a successful citizen-led movement urging Greenville County Council to establishing an important new tool to preserve farmland — an Agricultural Preservation Zoning District.
When a developer announced plans to convert sensitive land near the base of Paris Mountain into a resort hotel, we successfully mobilized advocates to speak out in opposition of the project.
In 2017, Upstate Forever helped conduct the Shaping Our Future Growth Alternatives Analysis, a tool to help citizens and community leaders make informed decisions about land use and growth.
We support the effort to ensure a full, comprehensive cleanup of a polluted site in Greenville's Newtown neighborhood.
Upstate Forever supports the City of Landrum in implementing Envision Landrum that advances community goals for land use, housing, and transportation.
Between 2016-2018, Upstate Forever led a two-year community visioning initiative in Boiling Springs, empowering local residents to guide future planning in Spartanburg County’s Central Region.
In February 2021, Upstate Forever was proud to assist with hosting and coordinating a virtual panel discussion about the adverse effects that pollution has on communities of color, and possible solutions.
